Te Araroa, which means “The Long Pathway” in Te Reo Māori, is New Zealand’s national long-distance walking track. Commonly called the Te Araroa Trail or simply The Trail, it stretches the entire length of Aotearoa — from Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga) in the north to Motupōhue (Bluff) in the south.
Spanning more than 3,000 kilometres, Te Araroa takes walkers through some of the world’s most diverse landscapes. The trail winds across alpine passes, alongside active volcanoes, through farmlands and forests, and into lively towns and cities. It is both a cultural and natural journey, offering a unique way to connect with New Zealand’s land, people, and heritage.
