Turning off on State Highway 7 at Hanmer Junction, we cross the historical Waiau Ferry Bridge which spans the rugged and deep Waiau Gorge, a starting point for bungee jumping and jet boating. We follow the Chatterton River along until we arrive on the outskirts of the Hanmer Springs township. Continuing north until we are met with the green tree filled town framed with forest covered mountains featuring mountain biking and hiking trails.
